AIIMS, Delhi develops two mobile apps for patients dealing with mental illness

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi has developed two mobile applications related to the treatment of mental illnesses. These two apps are 'Disha' and 'Saksham'. Through these apps, all the information and facilities will be available for the patients suffering from mental illnesses as well as patients undergoing treatment for a long time.

New Delhi: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi has developed two mobile applications related to the treatment of mental illnesses. These two apps are 'Disha' and 'Saksham'. Through these apps, all the information and facilities will be available for the patients suffering from mental illnesses as well as patients undergoing treatment for a long time.

Giving information about these applications, Dr Mamta Sood, Senior, Psychiatric Department, AIIMS Hospital, said that these two apps have been prepared for two different types of patients suffering from mental diseases. She added that the 'Disha' app for the first time will provide direction to people suffering from mental illnesses.

She added that this app will provide information about treatment, medicines, doctors, etc. It will also help the patients to understand their disease. While the second app, Saksham, will give reminders to mental illness patients, including reminders about medicines at the right time, resuming work, and how to continue their studies.

These apps have been developed jointly by the National Institute of Health Research (UK), Warwick University in (UK), Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi and AIIMS Hospital. Complete research has been done about these two apps and there is a preparation to bring them into the public domain. The research work in these two apps are completed and will be soon launched into the public domain. Dr Mamta Sood that these applications will be launched for patients by January 2022.
