New Delhi: Delhi is gearing up for vaccinating its citizens against COVID-19 before December 28 and reportedly over 51 lakh people will get the vaccine in the first phase.
According to sources, Delhi government is all set to start the vaccination drive as soon as it gets the vaccine from the Centre, and registration is underway for people in three priority categories who will receive it first.
The COVID-19 situation in Delhi has improved significantly in the past few days, but all eyes are set on when the vaccine will become available and people will get rid of the virus.
Speaking to ETV Bharat in this regard, Administrator, Vaccine India.org and Secretary of Delhi Medical Association, Dr Ajay Gambhir said that two vaccines have been approved in the world right now, Pfizer and Moderna and each person in priority categories should receive these vaccines first.
"Both these vaccines have been created based on the morphology of the virus. Actually, these are proteins. Anything that moves towards the virus to damage it, under the same circumstances, it protects from the virus spread. Just as iron is cut from iron, in the same way, the bite of coronavirus has also been made with the help of coronavirus," Gambhir said.
"Till now the coronavirus was a new virus, which our body's security system could not recognize. Due to which it quickly increased its number inside our body and it proved fatal for that person. But with the help of vaccine, it will protect the human body from spreading the virus," he said.
"Now the question is, how long will the vaccine protect our body from coronavirus in this way? How long will coronavirus antibodies remain active in our body? For this, every healthy person is advised to take 2 vaccines. The first vaccine is given on the first day and the second vaccine is given as booster dose after 3-4 weeks. Booster dose increases the ability to make antibodies manifold, which gives our body the ultimate protection," he added.
