New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is mulling proposals to bring amendments in its policies to ensure food safety and security in India.
"If we can make our country polio-free, I believe we can also ensure food safety and food security to 132 crores Indians," said Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr Harsh Vardhan. He further said that if necessary his ministry will bring amendments in its rules and regulations.
"We need an institutionalised mechanism through which we can bring food safety and ensure that the food reaches to the needy," he said.
Dr Harsh Vardhan was addressing on the occasion of First World Food Safety Day in New Delhi.
Lauding the efforts of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Dr Harsh Vardhan said that the organisations are already working in the sector of Food Safety.
"Along with FSSAI, different institutions, scientists, colleges, teachers we can definitely ensure food safety," said the minister.
"Food safety and security should be a mass movement in India. I appeal all Indians to take part in this movement so that there is no wastage of in whatever form it is," he added.
