Delhi: Political parties lock horns over teaching 'misleading' Indian map to students

Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday alleged that the BJP ruled MCD in Delhi is teaching misleading Indian map to the students of fourth standard over the online class. On one hand, BJP has demanded investigation into the matter and on the other hand, Congress said that BJP must apologise for keeping 'national integrity' at stake.

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Bhartiya Janata Party(BJP) ruled Municipal Corporation (MCD) and said that schools in MCD are teaching 'misleading' Indian maps to students in online classes. Ajay Sharma, member of Standing committee of North MCD has claimed that teachers of MCD schools are teaching 'misleading' map to the students.

Wrong depiction of the map of India could land the violators in jail with a maximum term of seven years and a fine up to Rs 100 crore.

Sharma said," The party which keeps on talking about nationalism is teaching wrong Indian map to the pupils of the fourth standard and to our utter surprise the children are being forced to learn from it over their online classes."

The AAP leader has further accused the BJP of ruining the present and future of the innocent students. Moreover, he demanded an inquiry into this matter."Students being shown an absolutely wrong political map of India in a BJP ruled MCD is nothing but a matter of shame," Ajay Sharma exclaimed.

Explaining the errors he said, "In this map, a map of Pakistan has been made in place of Kashmir, which in the current situation is called PoK. This issue will surely be raised at a higher level. We won't let it go unnoticed."

Reacting on the issue, BJP National spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said, "We have taken up the issue with Delhi MCD and Mayor. Mira Aggarwal has assured that strict action would be taken in this regard.

Kapoor added, "The concerned authority of the education department will be held accountable for the error. I have also ordered that that faulty map should be withdrawn at the earliest and must be replaced with the correct one.

BJP must apologise, says Congress

Quickly reacting on the matter, Congress demanded that BJP must apologise for teaching wrong Indian map to students.

Anil Chaudhary, President of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, said, "It is really surprising to know that students of Class 4 are being taught misleading map of India. BJP must apologise for this. Kids can very easily learn and grasp these things. The way Pakistan has been positioned in the map is completely wrong and the saffron party must seek forgiveness."

Taking a jibe at BJP, Chaudhary said, "Today is PM Modi's birthday and its sad to see that students are being taught wrong map of India. No citizen will compromise on the wrongly depicted map of the country."
