BJP has nothing to do with Congress' problems: Tom Vadakkan

BJP seems to be adopting wait and watch policy over Congress' problems. It has described the issue as an "internal matter" of the Congress and has not made any official comment on the situation.

New Delhi: Terming the on-going problems of the Congress as its "internal matter", the BJP leaders, including the ones who switched parties in the recent years, are refraining from making any statement on the situation.

Congress, which has been led by Sonia Gandhi in capacity of an interim chief ever since Rahul Gandhi resigned from the post of party chief owning responsibility of defeat in the general-elections of 2019, has failed to find a leader for itself.

It has resulted in all sorts of problems for the grand old party, which has given India finest prime ministers and other leaders.

Many of its leaders have joined the BJP in the recent past, saying the Congress is not the party that it used to be. One of the prominent names of the Congress leaders, who despite sharing very close relations with the Nehru-Gandhi family switched over to BJP, is Tom Vadakkan.

Vadakkan told ETV Bharat that whatever is happening in the Congress is its internal matter. "We don't have anything to do with it," he said.

Asked to comment on the Congress' situation, he said: "We won't say anything" but quickly added that the "Congress being the opposition party has a role to play".

"We want strong opposition as it's important for a democracy," he said.

Politically, the BJP must be terming it Congress' internal problem but most BJP leaders seem to be enjoying the fact that Congress has weakened and disintegrated and would not give them tough fight in elections ahead.
