BJP had a fear of Priyanka Gandhi in Varanasi: Congress

Reacting on Arun Jaitely's "disappointed" tweet over Priyanka Gandhi not being fielded from Varanasi, Congress leader Rajeev Shukla said that the BJP was scared of her. When asked about the candidature of Priyanka Gandhi, he said the party will decide from where she would be contesting elections.

New Delhi: Ending the speculations regarding Priyanka Gandhi to contest elections from Varanasi, against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress party announced the name of Ajay Rai as its candidate from the seat, on Thursday. Over this decision, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley showed his "disappointment" via his tweet.

Replying to his tweet, the Congress party said that it shows that they were scared, about Priyanka Gandhi, in Varanasi.

While addressing the media, Rajeev Shukla said, "Priyanka Gandhi was very clear about her statements from day one. She answered the question raised by the media that she would definitely like to contest elections from Varanasi but the final call will be taken by the party's core committee."

After Congress announced Ajay Rai as their candidate from Varanasi, Arun Jaitley said in his tweet, "Deeply disappointed with the Congress party's decision of not fielding Priyanka Gandhi from Varanasi. The last two months that she has been in public life has driven home the point, "India has changed, dynasties don't matter".

Her exit from the contest shows what matters."When asked about the candidature of Priyanka Gandhi in the ongoing elections, Rajeev Shukla said, "Right now she has been working hard in Uttar Pradesh and the party is yet to decide from where she would be contesting elections."
