New Delhi: After running out of funds due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Delhi government is all set to initiate the construction of flyovers and elevated corridors in the state under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model of the National Highways Authority of India(NHAI).

Five years back, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had announced the construction of flyovers and elevated corridors in the state in the order to ease the flow of traffic, which now, remains only on paper.

In order to fulfil its promises, the government has now opted to go for the PPP model.

As of now, well established huge enterprises will invest in the project, while the state government would pay them back over the next few years.

The Public Works Department has been directed to work on a plan for the project.

Meanwhile, officials at the PWD believe that the project has potential but it would only succeed if the government is ready to adopt a more liberal approach.

As per officials, the same kind of project had been proposed before them, earlier but with stricter rules, investors refused to invest in it.

Five state government ventures will get a boost through this project:

  • Making Wazirabad road signal free from Signature bridge till Bhopura border
  • Elevated corridor by the name of East-West Corridor from Anand Vihar to New Delhi railway station
  • Elevated corridor by the name of North-South Corridor from Wazirabad to Dhaula Kuan
  • Signal free road project from Apsara border to Anand Vihar
  • An elevated corridor from Signature bridge to DND

It is to be noted that no flyover or elevated corridor had been built in Arvind Kejriwal's last regime in the state.
