New Delhi: Police on Friday arrested two persons and recovered 125.48 kgs of heroin from them in the national capital. The approximate value of the seizure in the international market is Rs 860 crore.
The accused was identified as Mohd Shafi, 48, and Tareena, 36. Both are residents of Kandhar in Afghanistan.
According to the police, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Urvija Goyal ordered the formation of a team to monitor the drug trade closely and nab the heroin suppliers in the area in the west district.
On Friday, a trap was laid to nab the two accused who had headed from Wazirabad in their car to Ganda Nala Road near Gas Agency Khyala in New Delhi.
The heroin was wrapped in seven plastic bags. During the course of interrogation, the accused confessed to transporting the drug from Wazirabad to Khayala.
A case has been registered under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and The Foreigners Act at Khyala police station.
The police also seized a car from them. Further efforts are being made to nab the others in the syndicate.
