Kanker (Chhattisgarh): Unable to reach the hospital on time, a woman, seven months pregnant and had complained of labour pains, gave birth to a baby on roadside in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district on Tuesday.
According to sources, the woman's husband - Rupesh Netam, tried to arrange for the ambulance service (Mahtari Express) from the district hospital, but lack of vehicles had prompted him to ferry his wife, to the hospital, on a bicycle.
No sooner did they reach the district bus station, the woman complained of severe pains and was taken aside, under the shade of a tree. Subsequently, she gave birth to a baby, who reportedly died in the process.
Even though a substantial crowd gathered around the woman and her husband, none of the onlookers reportedly helped the couple.
A passer-by - Jamuna Bhandari, who had noticed the plight of the couple shifted them to a nearby hospital, where the baby was declared dead.
