Balrampur: A two-year-old tribal child allegedly died because of malnutrition and starvation at Bhagwan Kenpara village in Chhattisgarh's Balrampur district. The child belonged to Kodaku tribes of the state.
As per reports, the family has no land or ration card and it does not get the benefit of the facilities available under various schemes of the government.
Speaking to media, SK Markaam, Women Child Development Project Officer, refused to "confirm" the incident, saying there was not enough information to attribute the death to hunger.
"It would be too early to say that the child died of hunger. The matter is being investigated and we will come to know the exact reason of the death only after the report comes," he said.
Parvati Singh, the Sarpanch of the area, said that she tried to make ration card for the family but did not get any help from the Panchayat Secretary.
"The family does not have either a ration card or aadhar card. I was elected as sarpanch in the month of February and since then I am trying to make ration card for them but the Panchayat Secretary didn't pay any heed towards this," She added.
Even though authorities are talking about taking action against the culprits after the investigation, but this incident has definitely exposed the government's nutrition campaign in the state.
