Kondagaon (Chhattisgarh): Ashok Chakradhari, a potter in Naxal-affected Kondagaon, has hogged the limelight by making a unique lamp using clay. The magical lamp is truly a remarkable manifestation of art and thinking.
Ashok has set up an Art centre ''Jheetko-Mitki'' at his village which epitomizes all of his work.
He has been awarded National Merit certificate by the textile ministry for his exemplary contribution in the field of pottery.
Chakradhari has designed lamp in which flow of oil is circulated automatically. Due to this unique feature, the lamp can burn continuously for 24 to 40 hours. People are surprised to see this automatic arrangement in clay lamps. It is nothing short of a 'magic lamp' for the people. His work and designs hold an essence which is beyond describable.
Ashok's art has been appreciated by people in India and abroad as everyone is amazed to see these enthralling lamps which dispel the dark.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Ashok Chakradhari informed that he has been able to manufacture only about 100 lamps till now. However, there is a huge demand for these lamps from different parts of the country. He said that he is happy that the lamp made by him has been getting very good response from the people but a little disappointed as he is not able to provide more lamps to the people.
