Chhattisgarh incident

Bilaspur: In a shocking incident, 35 families of Dhanusha community of Marwahi district are still forced to live in stone age. This fact is quite evident as people of Akhradad village in Chhattisgarh still use stones to light the fire!

Ages ago, their ancestors used to make bow-arrow for the Kalchuri emperors of Ratanpur princely state. But after Independence, their source of survival ended with the end of the monarchy.

These people are still creating the art of their ancestors by making small baskets made of bamboo.

A year ago, the government provided electricity to this village. The lack of basic facilities like roads, water, education, and health is still prevailing in this village. The children of the village have to walk a distance of five kilometers to reach their school.

According to the villagers, few houses and toilets were built under the scheme of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna but the condition of the toilets is so pathetic that people are forced to go to the forests. So far no villager has been benefitted by the amount which has been withdrawn from the scheme for the construction of the houses.

Mahesh Yadav, CEO of Marwahi said, "I was not aware of the matter but now I will try to get the basic facilities in the village as far as possible."

While the government is spending crores every year on the youth for bamboo training, these backward people are still struggling for their bread and butter.
