Senior BJP leader Raman Singh played a pivotal role in getting the saffron party back to power in Chhattisgarh. He is one of the favourites to become the Chief Minister.

Raipur (Chhattisgarh): Dr Raman Singh, another low-profile BJP leader, is undoubtedly an architect of the BJP's emphatic win in Chhattisgarh Assembly polls. The former Chief Minister has registered an emphatic victory from Rajnandgaon assembly seat as he defeated Congress candidate Girish Dewangan by a huge marginof 45084 votes. After leading BJP's surprise victory in the state, Raman Singh is the frontrunner for the Chief Minister post.

Born on October 15, 1952. Dr. Raman Singh, who has served as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh in the past, is one of the favourites to become the Chief Minister. An experienced campaigner, Dr Singh, was an elected Member of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly for two terms - 1990 and 1993.

Education: Raman Singh, an expertpolitical player, has a degree of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicineand Surgeon (BAMS). Ayurvedic Medicine BAMS in 1975 degree and started serving asa doctor.

Politics: Raman startedhis political journey in the year 1976-77 when he tried his luck inKawardha Municipality in the year 1983-84 and was elected as acouncilor from Shitala ward. In 1990 and 1993, he won the election ofMLA for undivided Madhya Pradesh Assembly. In the year 1999, hecontested the Lok Sabha elections and won from Rajnandgaon. He was the union Minister of State forCommerce and Industry under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee led NDA from 13 October 1999 to 29January 2003.

Singh is a mass leader and has a hold over administration. He led the saffron's party campaign in the state, affected by Naxalism, and from the first day was confident of the BJP's win. He extensively toured nooks and corners of the state and campaigned for the BJP candidates.

In 1999, Dr Raman Singh was elected to the 13th Lok Sabha and from October 13, 1999, to 29 January 2003 served as the Union Minister of State Commerce and Industry in the then Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led government. Singh then forayed into Chhattisgarh politics after the state was carved out of undived Madhya Pradesh in 2000. He first became a MLA in 2004 and then in 2008 and 2013.

Dr Raman Singh continued his winning streak in the 2018 Chhattisgarh elections and once again emerged triumphant from his traditional Rajnandgaon constituency and once again has weaved his magic in the 2023 Chhattisgarh polls.

A soft-spoken person, Dr Raman Singh will remember this win for ages. Now it is on the BJP toss brass, whether to make Dr Raman Singh, the Chief Minister or give a new face.

Dr. Raman Singh in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, said that the Chhattisgarh public expressed confidence in Modi's guarantees. "I am deeply grateful to our leader Honorable Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji for his tireless hard work and efficient leadership on the massive victory of @BJP4CGState in the state. Today, the public has expressed confidence in our resolution letter "Modi's Guarantee" and the promises of the central leaders including Honorable Shri Modi ji and have given them Vijay Tilak. Under the guidance of Shri Modi ji, this victory is the victory of every person of Chhattisgarh (sic)," he said.
