Bijapur (Chhattisgarh): Security forces Sunday apprehended an alleged maoist insurgent and recovered three kg of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from the Musapur area in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district.
The suspected Maoist was held by a patrol squad of paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force from Tekmethla village.
The IEDs were concealed in a jungle and it is suspected that they were meant to target security forces, an official said.
In the last two months, as many as 20 cadres were apprehended from several Naxal-hit places of the state. Personnel from the CRPF, its elite unit CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF) were involved in the operations, he said.
The team also recovered a gelatin rod, electric detonator, pressure cooker, steel boxes, electric wire and batteries, all used in making IEDs, from a Maoist hideout in the same area.
Reportedly, many Naxals — several of them were carrying rewards — have surrendered under the 'Lone Varatu' (return to home) programme. They belong to frontline workers who live in villages and were trapped between police and Maoists. Since they have surrendered under the Lone Varatu program, they have started working in other fields.
