Mumbai: A rickshaw driver in Maharashtra's Vasai allegedly raped a 20-year-old girl and stuffed surgical blade and stones in her private parts, and then abandoned her in Mumbai's Goregaon area, with police nabbing the accused on Thursday night four days after he committed the heinous act.
The girl was found crying and writhing in pain near Ram Mandir Station in Mumbai's Goregaon area on January 22, officials said. Seeing her condition the citizens present there immediately informed the Vanrai Police Station.
The police rushed to the spot and shifted the girl to KEM Hospital where she was provided with medical care and her thorough medical examination was carried out.
Officials said the rape survivor, a resident of Nalasopara in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, was allegedly raped by the accused on Vasai beach on January 21. The rickshaw driver had picked up the girl from Vasai Railway station on the same day.
Shockingly, the culprit rickshaw driver allegedly stuffed a surgical blade and stones in her private parts. He then drove the girl to Mumbai, left her unconscious near Ram Mandir Station in Goregaon and fled from the spot.
While the girl's condition stabilised at the hospital, police launched a massive manhunt to trace the accused. The accused was finally nabbed between the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. He was arrested under sections 25, 27 and 64 of BNS.
Zone 12 Deputy Commissioner of Police Smita Patil, who is heading the investigation, said, "The accused rickshaw driver Rajratan Sadashiv Valval has been taken into custody. A case of rape has been registered against him and further investigation into the incident is underway."
