Kanker: Chhattisgarh innovative vision to revive the agricultural economy through Narwa, Garuwa, Ghurwa, and Baadi has been implemented successfully here in Narahpur tehsil of the state.
In this programme, there is protection and improvement of livestock especially cows and cattle and also land has been dedicated to encouraging the cultivation of fruits and vegetables.
The cowshed in Shriguhan village of Narsinghpur block is the best example of management of cattle.
The gram panchayat along with the women of self-help groups are growing different vegetables which have slowly become a source of income for rural women.
They have planted pumpkin, bottle gourd, okra, brinjal, beans, tomato, turmeric, maize, bitter gourd in 5 acres of land.
The initiative was started with the help of Bihaan programme so that rural area women can have their own income.
The panchayat asked MGNREGA to employ men in fields for preparing it for sowing. The gram panchayat has given permission for digging a borewell so that there can be a regular and adequate supply of water for farming. The district administration has given consent to construct borewell in the given area.
In the 8 acre land, 3 acres is for the shelter, 5 acres is for plantation and for grazing cows. Pumpkin is cultivated in around 2.5 acres of land. The women of the self-help group grow and harvest the crop and later on, they only sell it into the market. The maize planted in the area is used as fodder for the cows.
Around Rs 15,000-20,000 vegetables have been sold in the market and the women can make a profit of atleast Rs 2 lakh, gram panchayat sources said.
