Dhamtari (Chhattisgarh): A newborn allegedly died of hunger at Sundarganj in Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district on Sunday. If locals are to be believed, the infant died due to starvation as the mother of the child was found in an inebriated condition and was lying on the road.
The infant's mother has been identified as Rajveer Kaur of the same locality.
According to locals, they found the dead child lying on a road with her mother. Upon checking, it was found that the infant died and her mother was found in an inebriated condition.
On being informed by the locals, Sundarganj police reached the spot, sent the infant's body for postmortem and started interrogating the mother.
"The women police will interrogate the deceased child's mother. We think that the child died due to starvation as locals said that the mother of the infant was found in a drunken state," said Navneet Patil, SHO, Sundarganj PS.
"According to the locals, the infant's mother is an alcoholic and she never takes care of her newborn. Everything will be confirmed after receiving the post-mortem report," Patil added.
