Rajnandgaon: An encounter reportedly broke out between the police and the Naxalites in Madanwada area of the Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh on late Friday night. According to reports, one police Sub Inspector was killed and bodies of four Naxalities were recovered along with weapons used during the assault.
According to the police, Naxalites opened fire against police personnel near Pardhoni village under Manpur police station limits, leading to the late night encounter. Shyam Kishore Sharma, in-charge of Madanwada police station was reportedly killed in the ambush.

The incident took place when a team of security forces was out on a counter-insurgency operation, Inspector General of Police (Durg range) Vivekanand Sinha said. "When the patrolling team was cordoning off the area, Naxals suddenly came out of the village and the encounter broke out between the two sides," he said.
Reinforcement was rushed to the spot and bodies of the martyred official and the Naxals were evacuated out of the forest. Additional SP Gorakhnath Baghel and SP Jitendra Shukla's party visited the site of the encounter to review the situation and search operation underway in the area.
"Bodies of the four Naxals, one AK-47 rifle, 1 SLR weapon and two .315 bore rifles recovered," said GN Baghel, ASP Rajnandgaon.
Earlier, there were reports claiming that four soldiers went missing from the site of the encounter. However, the police has not revealed any confirmation regarding this information.
