Chhattisgarh: Protest against iron ore mining called off

The protest had started on December 3. The protesters were opposing the proposed iron ore mining in Aamdai Ghati. They were also demanding the release of their people held during the protest.

Narayanpur: Scores of villagers, who were protesting against the proposed iron ore mining, have called off their strike and started returning to their respective villages.

Around 4,000 people were sitting in protest at Dhaudai village, located in Abhujmad around 350 km from capital Raipur, since Thursday. The protest disrupted vehicular movement on Narayanpur-Orchha road and the district administration was trying to pacify the protesters.

The protest had started on December 3. The protesters were opposing the proposed iron ore mining in Aamdai Ghati. They were also demanding the release of their people held during the protest.

They also opposed the proposed police camp in the area.

A number of government officials went to meet the agitating villagers but they insisted on meeting the District Magistrate, SP or a political representative the area.

On December 4, IG Sunder Raj had appealed to them to maintain peace.

The villagers had levelled serious allegations against the district administration and had raised a number of issues.

The administration informed and assured the protesters that he proposed mining would not harm the environment.

Meanwhile, the agitators have been given 15 days to clear the area.
