Chhattisgarh CM's father gets bail in hate speech case

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel's father Nand Kumar Baghel has been granted bail in connection with a derogatory comment against a particular community during a public gathering in Lucknow.

Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel's father Nand Kumar Baghel has been granted bail in connection with a derogatory comment against a particular community during a public gathering in Lucknow.

A Chhattisgarh court had on September 7 sent him on a 15-day judicial custody over hate speech. He was supposed to be in custody till September 21. He was arrested by the police for making derogatory comments against Brahmin community.

Earlier, the D.D Nagar Police on late Saturday night registered an FIR against the 75-year-old following a complaint filed by the 'Sarv Brahmin Samaj', a police official said. The case was registered under the relevant section of the Indian Penal Code.

Speaking in Lucknow, the CM's father had made an appeal to people to boycott Brahmins by terming them as "foreigners", and also asked people to not let them enter their villages, according to an official. Baghel has been also accused of making derogatory comments against Lord Ram, the police said, quoting the complaint.

Further adding, the official said that a video of the purported comments of the CM's father was available on social media platforms.
