New Delhi: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel wrote a letter expressing his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for determining the rate of ethanol production from surplus rice by the state government at Rs 54.87 per litre.
The Chief Minister urged to allow the surplus paddy purchased from farmers of Chhattisgarh to produce biofuel directly to ethanol plants. He asserted that the move will enable the ethanol plants in the state to buy paddy directly from farmers and will aid in the economic progress of the farmers.
In his letter, the Chhattisgarh CM mentioned that a constant effort was being made for the last 18 months to encourage the production of biofuels from surplus paddy produced in the state, aiming to fulfil the goals set by the National Biological Policy 2018.
"Concerning the decision undertaken by you, to fix the rate of ethanol production from surplus rice (obtained through FCI godowns) by oil distribution companies at Rs 54.87 per litre, the efforts and hardships of the state government have been successful. And, I am extremely grateful towards you for taking this decision," he stated.

Earlier yesterday, Baghel had mentioned that due to the geographical situation and heavy monsoon, Chhattisgarh has grown 1.25 lakh tonnes of paddy, including sugarcane and maize. Hence, in a bid to utilise the surplus paddy, it was decided to convert it into ethanol.
He further informed that four MoUs have been signed to establish ethanol plants in Mungeli, Mahasamund and Janjgir districts.
