Durg (Chhattisgarh): Lashing out at the Congress government in Chattisgarh for "indulging in scams", Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said that the people were waiting for elections in the state and exuded confidence that the BJP would come to power.

Addressing a rally at the Pandit Ravi Shankar Shukla stadium here, Shah said, "Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel is doing scams here. They (the Congress) had announced to ban liquor but instead started home delivery of liquor. They promised to provide 10 lakh jobs and an unemployment allowance of Rs 2500. You (Baghel) should be ashamed that you broke the promises you had made to the public."

According to Shah, the countdown for the Bhupesh Bgahel government had started and BJP would return to power in the state. Elections in Chhattisgarh are scheduled to be held in or before November 2023. Currently, BJP is the opposition party in the state.

Listing out the achievements of the Narendra Modi-led government, the Union Home Minister said that the Opposition cannot accuse the Centre of indulging in corruption. "Nine years ago, terrorists from Pakistan intruded on India's land and killed our soldiers, but the then Congress government remained silent. After Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, Pakistan tried to do the same, and within 10 days, we gave a befitting reply to Pakistan with a surgical strike and an air strike," Shaw told a large crowd, who had gathered at the rally.

Chhattisgarh BJP in-charge Om Mathur, co-in-charge Nitin Nabin, and Durg division BJP in-charge Bhupendra Savanni were present for the rally. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also visited the residence of Pandwani singer Usha Barle as part of the party's 'Maha Jansampark Abhiyan' and met the Padma Shri awardee. Barle welcomed Shah in a traditional way.

Earlier, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had earlier downplayed the visit of Amit Shah to the state. "Shah is visiting the state to campaign for his party - the BJP. This will not make any difference to the Congress." Even Chattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee chief Mohan Markan also dubbed Amit Shah's visit to the state as "meaningless".
