Bodies of COVID-19 victims incinerated in Chhattisgarh

A video has surfaced online, showing bodies of COVID-19 victims lying outside a mortuary at the Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, after the mortuary ran out of space.

Raipur: Shocking scenes from a government hospital in Chhattisgarh emerged Tuesday showing bodies of COVID-19 victims lying outside a mortuary that had run out of space.

The video was filmed Monday at the Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in Raipur.

It showed victims in body bags lined up in a rubble-strewn courtyard, with workers in protective gear preparing to incinerate them.

The COVID crisis in India has escalated sharply over the past month.

The country now has more than 13.7 million confirmed cases of COVID-19, the second-highest in the world after the United States.
