Bastar youths distribute free food to needy during lockdown

Bastaria Back Benchers, a group of youngsters, have been the saviour of helpless people in Bastar, Chattisgarh during the lockdown. They have been distributing about 300 packets of food in the city, feeding the hungry.

Jagdalpur: As Covid-19 cases witnessed an uptick, lockdown is in place in Chattisgarh's Bastar for a week. While everyone remains cautious inside the four walls of their home, homeless and poor people find it hard to make both ends meet when the hassle of the city has come to a standstill. Driven by their pangs, a group of youngsters under the aegis of Bastaria Back Benchers have been braving Covid fears, risking their health and volunteering to provide food to the needy.

Parmeshwar Nair, a member of the group said that they have been involved in socially responsible activities. He said that hotels are closed during lockdown and poor, helpless people are finding it hard to feed themselves. Without any support from the government and administration, they have been distributing nutritious and delicious two meals per day to the needy, he said.

Another member of the group said that seventy packets of food were prepared during the beginning of lockdown. Still, it was not enough and they increased the number of food packets to 300. Rice, lentils, different varieties of vegetables are included in the packets and distributed throughout the city.

A beneficiary of the group's benevolent act lauded their effort. These youngsters are regarded no less than Annadata, food providers. For the last three days, we have been eating sumptuous meals. The youngsters relieved our burden, said the beneficiary.
