Mahasamund (Chhattisgarh): Around 800 Kg marijuana (ganja) worth over Rs 1.6 crore was seized by police from a truck on Chhattisgarh-Odisha border on Saturday.
The Mahasamund police, which succeeded in seizing the consignment of the narcotics, said that smugglers were bringing marijuana from Odisha and had a plan to sell it in Delhi.
As per reports, after receiving inputs about movement of a massive consignment of ganja from the area, patrolling was intensified and checkpoints were set up at several places in the district.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Additional Superintendent of Police, Megha Tembhulkar Sahoo said that based on the information received, a police team intercepted the vehicle transporting this huge amount of ganja to Chhattisgarh.
"We have seized marijuana and took smugglers into the custody. They were returning from Odisha after delivering vegetables. However, more details will be cleared after further investigation," she said.
A case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered in this connection, she added.
