Addressing a webinar, Bihar's Minister for Industries Shahnawaz Hussain said that preparations are underway to introduce textile and leather policies in the state after the ethanol and oxygen production policies are put in place.

New Delhi: Bihar's Minister for Industries and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Shahnawaz Hussain on Monday said that international industries will soon enter the state market and preparations are underway to introduce textile and leather policies very soon after the ethanol and oxygen production policy is put in place.

Addressing a webinar on the 'prospects of agro-based industry in Bihar', Hussain said that the Panjipara area of Kishanganj is a stronghold of the leather industry as the finest leather made here is exported worldwide. Efforts are on to set up a hub of leather processing units near here, he added.

President of Bihar Industries Association (BIA) Ramlal Khaitan and Subhash Kumar Patwari, Convener of Industries Sub-Committee, Bihar Chamber of Commerce and Industries Association also spoke on the occasion while Bachha Prasad Singh, president of Bihar Litchi Producer Association also made attendance.

"Due to the excellent coordination between the Central and state government, an environment has been created to attract global entrepreneurs in Bihar in the sectors of ethanol and food processing. Bihar is set to make way towards development under a double engine government with the combined efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar," the minister stated.

"After the passage of 400 crore mega food park project in Muzaffarpur's Motipur, Bihar will now get 5 mini food parks. At least 5 industrial units will open in each mini food park proposed for different commissionerates of Bihar. Nearly 80 per cent of Bihar's population is associated with agriculture including the production of fruits, vegetables, maize, sugarcane following which there is an immense potential for agro-based industries here, Shahnawaz Hussain added.

He also informed that State Industrial Promotion Board (SIPB) has received Rs 6,199 crore investment proposals in Bihar. Out of them, the investment proposals of Rs 4,616 crore which is 74 per cent are related to the food processing sector. "If you look at the breakup of the investment proposals of the food processing sector, then Rs 3,071 crore or 67 per cent of the investment proposals are related to ethanol production," he said.
