Muzaffarpur: In what could be termed as one of the most heartbreaking incidents on the plight of migrant workers amid lockdown, a baby was seen trying to wake his dead mother at a railway station in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district.
The video clip of the incident is being widely shared on social media. Oblivious of the fact that his mother has died, the toddler tries to wake her up by lifting the cloth repeatedly.
As per reports by the family members, the woman, Arbina Khatoon (35), had fallen ill on the Shramik Special train due to lack of food and water. The deceased woman had boarded the special train from Gujarat on May 23.
When the train reached Muzaffarnagar on May 25, she collapsed. Her body was laid out on the station platform where her child frantically tried to wake her up.
East Central Railway spokesperson Rajesh Kumar told media, "The video is of May 25. The family had deboarded at the Muzaffarpur railway station from the Ahmedabad-Madhubani Shramik Special train."
He said that the family was going back to their home in Katihar. Khatoon complained of uneasiness in the train on Monday at around noon.
"She soon passed away and her body was taken down from the train at the Muzaffarpur railway station at 3 pm," Kumar said.
It is to be noted that amid the coronavirus-induced lockdown, the plight of poor migrant workers has no parallel as they seem to be worst sufferers of ongoing nationwide lockdown.
