Banka: In a viral video from Bihar's Banka district, two persons, in the presence of who appears to be a policeman, were seen throwing an unclaimed body into the Chandan river on Sunday. However, ETV Bharat does not vouch for the authenticity of the video.
It can be seen in the video that a van carrying the body comes to the cremation ground on the banks of river Chandan. Three persons including a police constable come out of the van and they can be heard discussing how to dispose of the body. Following this, two people carry the body and throw it into the river. When asked about the reason for throwing the body, the police constable said ask the senior officials.
It is worth mentioning here that for the cremation of unclaimed dead bodies, up to Rs 3,000 are provided by the Rogi Kalyan Samiti. But instead of performing the last rites, the local police officials chose to throw the body into the river. The responsibility to perform the last rites of an unclaimed body rests with the police and the hospital administration, reports said.
