Second wave of COVID-19 hits migrant workers hard; govt launches special trains

A spike in the cases of novel coronavirus disease has again wreaked havoc across the country and migrant workers are bearing the brunt this year too. A large number of migrant workers are returning to their native places from different states including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi and other places.

Patna: The second wave of COVID-19 has added to the woes of migrant workers and the resurgence of the pandemic has once again wreaked havoc across the country.

A large number of migrant workers are returning to their native places from different states, including Gujarat, Maharashtra and Delhi among others.

When the government announced the first lockdown, many migrant workers took a vow that they will never return to the metropolis. However, hunger drew them back. They are yet again back on their way home fearing another lockdown and job loss. This is the reason why huge crowds are seen at bus stands and railway stations.

Taking cognisance of the matter, the Central Railway is going to run many additional reserved trains from stations in Pune and Mumbai to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. For the convenience of passengers, additional special trains will be operated from Mumbai to Patna, Darbhanga and Pune to Danapur.

East Central Rail Pune-Danapur 01401 Pune special train will operate on 9, 11, 16 and 18 April, which will depart at 4:15 pm.

The train will reach Danapur the next day at 11:45 pm.

01402 special trains will leave Danapur on April 11, 13, 18 and 20 at 4 pm, which will reach Pune at 12:05 am the next day.

OPERATION OF SPECIAL TRAINS

The special trains will stop at Ahmedabad, Belapur, Kopargaon, Manmad, Bhusaval, Khandwa, Itarsi, Jabalpur, Katni, Satna, Prayagraj Chiki, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Junction Mugalsarai, Buxar and Ara.

The special trains will also have one AC-2 Tier, 4 AC-3 Tier, 11 sleeper and six-second class coaches.

Mumbai Patna, Mumbai Special train 01091 superfast special train from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminal will depart from Mumbai on April 12, 15 and 19 at 11:05 am and reach Patna at 2:30 pm the next day.

01092 special train will depart from Patna on 13, 16 and 20 April at 4:20 pm and will reach Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj terminus Mumbai at 11:30 pm the next day. These trains will stop at Dadar, Kalyan, Nashik Road, Bhusaval, Itarsi, Jabalpur, Katni, Satna, Prayagraj Chhiki, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Junction Mugalsarai, Buxar and Ara.

MUMBAI SUPERFAST SPECIAL TRAINS

Mumbai-Darbhanga and Mumbai Superfast special train 01097, starting from Lokmanya Tilak Terminal, will depart from Mumbai on April 12 and 19 at 8 am and reach Darbhanga at 4:10 pm the next day. 01098 superfast special will leave Darbhanga at 1:20 pm on April 13 and 20, and will reach Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Mumbai at 5:10 am on the third day.

These trains will stop at Satna, Prayagraj, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Junction Mugalsarai, Buxar, Ara, Patliputra, Hajipur, Muzaffarpur and Samastipur.

BOOKING STARTS

The booking of tickets for fully reserved special train 01093 commenced on April 7 on special charges. Booking for 01401, 01091 and 01097 at all computerized reservation centres and website www.irctc.com will be launched on April 8. Further information about the timetable of these special trains can be obtained from www.enquiry.indianrail.gov.in.
