Patna: JDU chief and NDA leader Nitish Kumar will be sworn-in as the Bihar Chief Minister for a fourth straight term today at 4:30 PM in Patna.
The NDA, who recently won the election in Bihar with a majority met the Governor on Sunday to stake claim to form the government.
According to sources, a total of 12 ministers would take oath along with Kumar. The BJP, which has won 31 more seats than the 43 won by JD(U), would also have two deputy Chief Ministers in Bihar.
Sources claimed that four-time MLAs from Katihar Tarkishore Prasad and Bettiah MLA Renu Devi would take oath as the new Deputy CMs of Bihar.
Notably, Prasad and Renu Devi were chosen as the leader and the deputy leader of the BJP legislature party on Sunday during an NDA meeting.
While Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda are expected to attend the ceremony, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has decided to boycott the event.
The party put out a statement on its Twitter handle announcing that they will boycott the ceremony as "the public gave the mandate to change which is against the NDA."
Notably, this is the seventh time when Nitish Kumar will take an oath to become the Chief Minister of Bihar. He had served as the Chief Minister of the state for little over seven days in March 2000, after which he was elected in 2005 when he served a full term.
He was re-elected to power in November 2010, after which he served for four years before resigning, and had again taken oath as Chief Minister in February 2015. He was voted to power in 2015 Assembly Election as part of the 'Mahagathbandhan'.
The NDA has secured a 125-seat majority in the 243-seat strong Bihar Legislative Assembly of which BJP won on 74 seats, JD(U) on 43 while eight seats were won by two other NDA constituents. The RJD, on the other hand, emerged as the single-largest party with 75 seats while the Congress only won 19 of the 70 seats it had contested on.
