New Delhi: JD(U) MP Chandeswar Chandrawanshi on Tuesday raised the issue demanding special category status for Bihar.
Recently, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Gopal Narayan Singh attacked Nitish Kumar and said that Nitish Kumar has no achievements and that is why he is raising the issue of special status to distract the people of Bihar.
Singh further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already said that no special category status will be given to Bihar.
While talking to ETV Bharat, JDU MP Chandeswar Chandrawanshi said that whether we were in alliance with the NDA or not, our main concern has always been the growth of the state.
He said, "JD(U) has been ruling in Bihar for 15 years as Bihari's has seen the development of their state. We have always demanded the special status for Bihar for the rapid development of the state."
Asserting that Bihar deserves a 'special category status' by the Centre, Chandrawanshi said, "CM Nitish Kumar has ensured that the demand of special category for Bihar was a ‘pratibaddhata' (commitment) of JD(U).
Nitish and his party have been pursuing special category status demand for Bihar since December 2005, a month after he for the first time came into power in November that year.
Bihar CM also held public rallies in support of the demand in Patna in October 2012 as well in Delhi in March 2013.
JD(U)'s demand for special category status for Bihar would be the main agenda of the party during the forthcoming assembly election slated to be held in October-November, 2020.
