Indian Postal Department honours Bihar's 'bicycle girl' with commemorative stamp

Indian Postal Department has honoured Bihar's bicycle girl Jyoti, who cycled 1300 km from Gurugram to Bihar over eight days with her ailing father riding pillion with a commemorative stamp.

Darbhanga: Jyoti Kumari, who cycled 1300 km from Gurugram to Bihar over eight days with her ailing father riding pillion, has been honoured with a postal stamp issued by the Indian Postal Department on Sunday.

According to reports, the Indian Postal Department has opened an account of Jyoti in India Post's Payment Bank.

Superintendent of Darbhanga Postal Division, UC Prasad has given a check of Rs 5,100 to Jyoti. A postage stamp picturing Jyoti's photo and the name has been also issued by Postal Department.

"Jyoti has made Darbhanga proud all over the world. Due to her sacrifice and the postage stamp including her photo and name has been issued under, 'My Stamp Scheme' and it has been handed over to her as a gift. This gift will be memorable for Jyoti and the coming generations will also know Jyoti's courage," said, UC Prasad.

Jyoti has caught worldwide attention after she had been forced to cycle over 1300 kilometres to reach home amidst a nationwide lockdown. US President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump has also lauded her efforts as a "feat of endurance and love".

Following the news of Jyoti’s feat, the Cycling Federation of India (CFI) had also offered her a cycling trial at the IGI Stadium complex in New Delhi but she has decided to prioritise her studies over the trial offer from CFI, reports added.
