After heavy downpour in Bihar, residents of Darbhanga village built a bamboo bridge to resolve the transportation issue. This act comes to the fore, as the government had reportedly turned a deaf ear to the issue of villagers.

Darbhanga's bamboo bridge

Darbhanga (Bihar): Vexed by the alleged apathy of the government in addressing the prevailing issues in the flood-hit Darbhanga village of Bihar, the residents took up the massive task of building a makeshift bridge, as the concrete one was washed away in the floods.

For the past several weeks, the villagers have been suffering from lack of connectivity as the heavy downpour in the region resulted in the destruction of roads and bridges.

With the government lending a deaf ear to the villagers' problems, the latter built a bamboo bridge by joining forces. They reiterated that though they have informed the concerned officials, none of them have responded and hence, have constructed the bridge for the commuters.

"Due to relentless rain, the bridge collapsed and people were not able to go towards the city for their work. So far, no official has come to take the stock of the prevailing situation. We have made the bridge with the help of the bamboo tree. Not only vehicles but even people can also move freely on this bridge," said a local.

On the other hand, heavy downpour in the state has also made the lives of locals in Dangi Tola village difficult.

Families are being forced to eat rats as the floods have wreaked havoc and destroyed their houses in the region.

Bihar is witnessing floods as the water levels of several rivers are on the rise, following heavy rainfall in the past few days.

Many villages of Bihar's Darbhanga, Araria and Madhubani districts have been flooded due to the heavy downpour.
