Covid guidelines flouted at wedding of Bihar's BJP MLA son

Bihar's BJP MLA Manchan Kesari hosted a big fat wedding party on Tuesday in the presence of a huge crowd flouting all Covid guidelines. None of the guests was seen using face masks and adhering to social distancing.

Araria (Bihar): Despite the state reeling under a night curfew to battle the Covid pandemic, Bihar's BJP MLA Manchan Kesari hosted a big fat wedding party on Tuesday in the presence of a huge crowd flouting all Covid guidelines as not more than 100 people were allowed to attend the marriage function during Covid times. However, on Wednesday, the government capped gatherings at marriage functions to a maximum of 50 persons.

The state government had issued strict guidelines to contain the surging Covid cases. Despite this, none of the guests attending the ceremony was seen using face masks and adhering to social distancing.

The couple was accorded with a grand welcome with some artists were seen dancing with them.

When ETV Bharat asked Kesari about organising a grand event, he said that all guests were following covid guidelines and no such guidelines flouted during the ceremony.

"All were wearing masks and stand at a distance of 2 feet from each other," said Kesari.

In the wake of the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the state, the Bihar government on Wednesday refused to impose a complete lockdown in the state.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, after chairing a meeting of the crisis management group in Patna, imposed an evening curfew in the state from 6 pm onwards. Earlier, the Bihar government had imposed a night curfew from 9 pm to 6 am.

The state government has also capped gatherings at marriage functions to a maximum of 50 persons, while 25 persons will be allowed for cremation or burial. The new guidelines will come into place with immediate effect.
