Bihar police ready to ensure free elections: DGP SK Singhal

The 1988 batch IPS officer SK Singhal assumed duty as Bihar Director-General of Police (DGP) on Saturday and said that the Bihar Police is ready to conduct fear-free elections.

Patna: Bihar Director-General of Police (DGP) SK Singhal on Saturday said that ensure law and order and controlling crime is a big responsibility and will be discharged under any circumstances.

The 1988 batch IPS officer SK Singhal assumed duty as DGP of Bihar today. Singhal is also currently the DG of Civil Defense and Fire Brigade.

Talking to ETV Bharat, DGP SK Singhal said that changing the image of the police is his first priority.

'Law and order first priority'

After taking charge, DGP SK Singhal said that his first priority is to strengthen law and order in the state.

Controlling crime as well as enforcing the liquor ban law firmly is his priority along with taking the image of Bihar Police to higher levels.

Singhal added that not only the police officers of the SHO or below rank, but also the top functionaries will have to fulfill their responsibilities and if anyone is working poorly then even the top police officers can be punished.

'Committed to meeting the expectations of the public'

The DGP said that we [Bihar police] are committed to fulfilling the expectations of the 12 crore people of the state so that good relations can be formed between the police and the general public.

In view of the elections, the police headquarters has already started preparations and a review meeting is held every second-third day. In particular, the responsibilities assigned to the field policing are being watched closely by Headquarters.

'Following Election Commission's instructions in view of elections'

SK Singhal said that in view of Bihar assembly elections, all the guidelines the state police is getting from the Election Commission are being followed.

Bihar Police is ready to conduct fear-free elections and has assessed the state’s situation and sent its report to the Election Commission. Now the commission has to decide how much force will be required to be called from outside.

'Elections will be conducted in a peaceful manner'

DGP SK Singhal assured that the mobilization of Bihar Police is quite strong and said that the security is in place to ensure that even in the last few days elections can be held in a peaceful manner. He emphasized that there will be no laxity from the police's side in this.

'Criminals will be on watch'

The DGP said that it is challenging to conduct elections during the Corona period, but the police and administration are fully prepared. The administrative mechanisms for elections during the Corona period are quite strong. Therefore, there will be no let-up in the system of elections.

He said that special attention is being paid to the criminals who are in or out of jail during elections. They have been identified and a list is prepared.

Talking about the rise in crime and theft incidents in the state recently, the DGP said that he took office just two days ago and asked for time.

"Review of all subjects is going on. Give me some time, the situation will be honorable," he said.
