Bihar govt to set up cyber crime coordination centre soon

To deal with cyber crimes such as financial frauds, circulation of communal and pornographic contents, Bihar, chief minister Nitish Kumar has planned to set up the apex coordination centre in the state soon.

Patna: In order to put a check on cyber crimes in Bihar, chief minister Nitish Kumar has planned to set up a cyber crime coordination centre in the state.

To deal with cyber crimes such as financial frauds, circulation of communal and pornographic contents, the Union Home Ministry also asked the state governments to establish district cyber crime cells and set up a state cybercrime coordination cell at the headquarter-level.

According to reports, 21 police officers including DIG will be appointed in Bihar Cybercrime Co-ordination Centre. For this, other police forces including Cyber ​​DIG, three SPs, three DSPs and 12 Inspector rank officers will be deployed.

It would closely monitor the cyberspace and social media with due emphasis on vernacular content. The centre would also block those websites which flout India's laws and circulate child porn, and communally and racially sensitive content.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Cyber ​​expert, Abhinav Saurabh said," The cybercrime cases are of varied types. These range from defacement of government websites, online financial frauds, online stalking and harassment, and data thefts. Each requires specialised investigative skillsets and forensic tools. A cybercriminal can sit anywhere and hack people's bank account. Any device running on the Internet can be easily hacked. In such a situation, to catch cybercriminals, the police should be prepared. In such cases, the Bihar Cybercrime Coordination Center will help the police and cyber cell."

"This year there has been a lot of increase in the case of cyber fraud. The reason for this is the increased digital payments and online shopping during the lockdown. The increasing trend of net banking and e-wallet has increased the chances for cyber criminals. People are not aware of the precautions related to this and frauds take advantage of this," Saurabh said.

Meanwhile, in Bihar, CM Nitish also advised the police and government officials to expedite setting up of cyber and mobile forensic labs and to identify the need for research and development in specific areas of cyberspace.
