Welcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Sasaram, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar thanked him for the assistance provided to the state during the COVID-19 pandemic phase.

Speaking at the election rally in Sasaram, the first one which the Prime Minister is addressing in the poll-bound state, Kumar said the recovery rate from coronavirus was almost 94 per cent in the state and also mentioned the schemes run by the Centre for the benefit of the underprivileged sections and farmers of the state and the country at large.

"I welcome our Prime Minister and I thank people for turning up in huge numbers despite COVID-19 pandemic," Kumar said at the rally being organised in Biada Maidan, Sasaram.

Kumar hailed the special trains run during the lockdown phase to bring migrant workers back to the state, the free distribution of food grains and pulses from April and the cash assistance provided under Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the female beneficiaries during the COVID-19 phase as the prime examples of Centre's assistance to Bihar.

Tejashwi's Gaya rally cancelled as district denies permission for chopper landing

RJD leader and Mahagathbandhan's CM candidate, Tejashwi Yadav's scheduled rally at Gaya was cancelled today, as his chopper was not accorded permission to land at the venue.

Tejashwi was to address a rally at Gaya's Haridas Somnari in support of the local Congress candidate.

However, his chopper was not granted permission to land, as the venue of the public meeting is less than 500 metres away from Gandhi Maidan, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi too is addressing a rally today.

District Magistrate Abhishek Singh said that since it was already decided that the PM's chopper would land at Gandhi Maidan, permission for another landing could not be given on technical grounds.

Rahul's Purnia halt cancelled due to route issues

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's scheduled halt at Purnia has been cancelled due to air route-related issues, the local candidate said.

According to Gandhi's schedule, he was to take a 30-minute halt at Purnia, and hold a brief meeting with Congress candidate Indu Sinha and other leaders, before proceeding for his rally at Bhagalpur district's Kahalgaon.

However, due to route-related issues, Gandhi will not be able to halt at Purnia and will instead directly leave for Kahalgaon from Patna, Sinha said.

Bihar campaign set to intensify as Rahul, Modi address rallies today

Patna (Bihar): With campaigning for assembly elections on at full swing in Bihar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Congress president Rahul Gandhi will add further heft and heat to the proceedings from Friday.

Prime Minister Modi will launch his campaign on Friday by addressing a rally at Dehri in Rohtas district. This will be followed by a second rally at Gaya's historic Gandhi Maidan venue and the third at Bhagalpur.

According to the BJP, the Prime Minister will address 12 election rallies in Bihar. A BJP leader said Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will also attend several election meetings along with the Prime Minister.

For the Congress, Rahul Gandhi will also address two election rallies on Friday. Congress legislative council member Prem Chand Mishra said that Rahul will hold his first rally at Hisua in Nawada while his second rally will be held at Kahalgaon.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav is likely to accompany him at Hisua.

In Bihar, polling for the 243-member assembly elections in three phases will be held on October 28, November 3 and November 7, while counting will take place on November 10.

The first phase will go to polls for 71 assembly seats on November 28, while the second phase will go to 94 seats on November 3 and 78 seats in the last phase on November 7.

The first phase will go to polls for 71 assembly seats on November 28, while the second phase will go to 94 seats on November 3 and 78 seats in the last phase on November 7.
