Bhagalpur (Bihar): Continuing with the rare yet happening phenomenon of 'occult killings' in the region, an uncle killed his nephew as a part of a black magic ritual in Bhagalpur district on Monday.
The incident occurred in Vinoba Tola village, falling under the limits of Pirpainti police station, wherein the uncle - identified as Shivnandan Ravidas, hacked his 10-year-old nephew to death to propitiate goddess Kali; all based on an advise given by a 'tantrik'.
According to police, the village tantrik,Vibhash Mandal advised Das to sacrifice a male child during the night of Diwali; in order to be blessed with a child. Overcome by desperation of not having a child in ten years of his marriage, Das resorted to the extreme step, killing his nephew with no remorse.
"Ravidas took his nephew to a pre-assigned place under the pretext of buying him firecrackers and slit his throat', said Senior Superintendent of Police Ashish Bharti.
The child's parents lodged a complaint with the police after his body was found from a heap of bamboo shafts in the village.
While the police have recovered the body and sent it for an autopsy, grief-stricken family members thronged the police station seeking justice for the henious act.
A case has been registered against Das, as well as the tantrik.
