Katihar (Bihar): A young man and a woman in Bihar were humiliated and physically abused by villagers because they were in a relationship and belonged to different communities, police said.
Reports said their heads were shaved off and the man was tortured with a hot iron on the orders of an unofficial village court, usually headed by a village elder, in Katihar district.
The incident in Dadkhora village on Monday came to light when footage of the attack was posted on social media, police said.
Reports say villagers filmed the pair when they were together and misbehaved with the woman before releasing the video to village leaders.
The couple were also fined over two lakh rupees by the villagers, reports said.
Police rescued the pair and several people have been charged on a complaint made by the victims.
A police officer in Katihar, Hari Mohan Shukla said a case has been registered and a search is on to find everyone involved in the incident.
