Muzaffarpur: Trapped lifeless in a fisherman's net, the picture of a 3-month old boy - Arjun, has gone viral on social media raising serious concerns over the reason behind his death.

The District Magistrate of Muzaffarpur, Alok Ranjan said: "There have been three deaths in Sheetalpatti village. And the mother Reena Devi is suspected to be responsible for the deaths."

After a fight with her husband, she took all the four children to the river and threw them into the water one after another. Later, she herself jumped into the river," he added.

According to Ranjan, the mother and one of the kids were rescued, but three others could not be saved. One of them was little Arjun.

Little Arjun was found trapped in a fisherman's net.

The mother, however, said that she was not aware of how the kids went into the water.

The locals said: "She went to Bagmati river with her kids to take a bath. She was washing clothes while the youngest Arjun jumped into the water. She went into the river to save him and seeing her, the other three children followed her into deep water. When people noticed them drowning, they shouted and alerted everyone."

The DM is certain that it is a criminal case. The case has no connection with the ongoing floods in the state, the children have been deliberately killed. Therefore, an FIR has been registered against the mother.
