Araria (Bihar): As many as nine people were killed in lightning strikes across four districts of Bihar on Friday.
Districts from where lightning deaths were reported include Araria (5), Purnia (2), Kishanganj (1) and Banka (1).
As per reports, the majority of the people killed were working in agriculture fields when they were struck by lightning and deceased also include a 5-year-old girl.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Shambhu Kumar, District Disaster Management Officer of Araria informed that 5 people who died belonged to different blocks of the district.

"Three people died in Raniganj block whereas one each died in Bhargama block and Palasi block. All concerned block COs have been directed to conduct post mortem of all dead bodies so that the benefit of government grants can be given to the relatives of the deceased," he said.
It is to be noted that chief minister Nitish Kumar announced ex- gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh to the next of the kin of all those who died due to lightning. The CM also made an appeal to people to take necessary precautions during the turbulent weather.
