Patna: Lightning strikes claimed at least 23 lives at various districts in Bihar on Saturday. According to the information received from the districts, 23 persons were killed by lightning during the past 24 hours in the state.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has appealed to the people to be vigilant and follow the guidelines issued by the disaster management department for protection against lightning in the inclement weather. He suggested that people stay at home and be safe. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced Rs 4 lakh each for the next of kin of a victim.
According to the figures released on Saturday by the Disaster Management Department in Patna, the death toll in the lightning incidents in various districts of Bihar has climbed to 49 in the last two days. The lightning has also caused widespread damage to houses and belongings of the residents.
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of lightning and thunderstorm warning for 15 districts of the state.
The districts which are likely to be affected are Patna, Bhojpur, Saran, Shivhar, Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur, Bhabua, Rohtas, West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Buxar, Siwan, Araria and Kishanganj.
