Harvansh Choudhary, a native of Panchbhog village of Darbhanga district has commenced his journey from Mumbai on April 5 after the contractor, under whom he had been working for the last 2-years, denied helping him fearing coronavirus. After which the iron man decided to travel the distance of over 2,000 km on foot.

"I withdrew Rs 500 from my bank account and booked a train ticket. Soon after the commencement of nationwide lockdown, I get to know that my ticket got cancelled. After which I have decided to go to my village on foot."

Harvansh, who is unaware of the exact distance and map of his hometown, took a bus which left him at Madhya Pradesh's Itarshi district.

"I would like to thank Madhya Pradesh Police, who had offered me food items, drinking water and Rs 200", said Harvansh.

The migrant labourer further narrated the ordeal and criticised the Uttar Pradesh police for their inhumane behaviour.

"When I reached UP, the local police treated me very badly. They have beaten me saying, 'who gave you permission to go to your village'. None of the villagers even asked me for food and water, fearing coronavirus."

He further maintained that his foot appears like a 'cracked land' and suffering from severe body pain due to covering an impossible distance.

Savitri, sister of the iron man said, "I feel amazed after seeing my brother, who has covered such a long distance to reach the home."

"I informed the Mukhiya of the village about his arrival from Mumbai and they took him to a quarantine centre near our village", added Savitri.

However, Harvansh tested negative when tested for COVID-19 but the officials put him under quarantine as a precautionary measure.
