Guwahati (Assam): Assam floods, this year, has caused major damage to the people. Even hundreds of kids remained affected by the calamity after many of their schools submerged in the floodwaters and they were forced to risk their lives to go to schools by travelling through water-logged roads.
One such incident came to light in Darrang district on Friday after a group of small kids in their uniforms were seen travelling to their schools with the help of primitive banana boats and huge containers.
The flood has destroyed the transportation and communication services of the area. From the houses of the thousands of villagers to their fields and livestock, everything was swept away by the destructive flood.
Assam State Disaster Management Authority stated that the destructive flood this year has claimed more than 150 lives. Over 21 lakh people from 1,716 villages in 56 revenue circles of the state were severely affected by the calamity.
In the past few days, Assam heaved a sigh of relief after the flood situation in the state improved considerably with the water level of all the major rivers and its tributaries started receding. The life also started returning slowly to normal in the flood-affected districts.
