Agartala (Tripura): Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Sunday launched a scathing attack on Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb accusing him of mocking the judiciary. Banerjee posted a video of Deb in which he was heard directing the civil servants not to fear the "contempt of court" as the police come under his control. "

"@BjpBiplab is a DISGRACE to the entire nation! He shamelessly mocks Democracy, MOCKS the Hon'ble JUDICIARY and seemingly gets away with it! Will the SUPREME COURT take cognizance of his comments that reflect such grave disrespect?", he wrote on his official Twitter handle.

In the video, Deb had been seen directing the officials not to implement the government orders without any fear. "I have come across many officials who respond to orders saying sir this may be tantamount to contempt of court. How many contempt of court has happened to date and who are the people who have been jailed for contempt of Court. It's not that easy, I am sitting here. I would have gone to jail in the first place", he said.

"To send to Jail, you need police and police is the prerogative of the Chief Minister", Deb further said.

Justifying his comments, Deb later said that obstructing promotions of government employees over court cases pending for years can be equated to the injustice meted out to them. "Cabinet decisions can be taken to resolve the impasse. How many days shall the government make the employees wait? If they go to retirement without promotion they will be deprived of the deserved package of benefits.

The officials in the system may turn out to be contempt of court. It seems like contempt of court is like a tiger sitting over there. I am the tiger here", the CM added.

But, parts of his real speech were found censored in the video posted by Abhishek Banerjee.

Although no official statement came from Deb's office, his official in special duty and media advisor Sanjay Mishra countered Banerjee, saying, "You must listen to the full speech before spreading your fake propaganda, which you have learned from your political guru, and we all know how much respect you have for government institutions".
