Stranded by lock down, two differently-abled youth in Assam plan to pedal home

Two specially-abled youth, stranded 400 km away from their home in Assam's Silchar have started their journey on their tricycles.

Golaghat (Assam): Stranded by the lockdown since March 24, two differently-abled persons have decided to pedal to their home around 400 km away.

Ali Hussain and Akhtar Hussain of Silchar have started on their tricycles, specially designed for specially-abled persons, from Naojan in Golaghat district on Thursday. The two reached Numaligarh, located around 90 kms away, on Sunday. They hope to reach their homes in Silchar before the Eid-Ul-Fitr.

Both the Hussains are specially-abled and they earn their living by begging on the trains. However, they got stranded at Naojan in Golaghat district after the announcement of Lockdown due to COVID-19. The duo have lost their patience after spending 33 days in someone else's house in Naojan.

"We were stranded at Naojan due to the lockdown. But the holy month of Ramzan has already started and we want to celebrate the Eid along with the family at home. So we have started the journey and I hope both of us will reach home before the Eid," said Ali Akhtar.

Ali Hussain said that they spend the nights at different places like in the verandah of the closed shops on the way. "We have started. We dont know how long it will take but we hope we will reach home before the Eid," said Ali Hussain.
