PM Modi assured to provide all help for Assam flood

A delegation of Members of Parliament (MPs) from Assam, including Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Rameswar Teli, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Parliament to discuss the prevailing flood situation in the state. The delegation also submitted a memorandum to PM Modi urging him to announce a special package to mitigate the floods, which every year damage roads, houses and crops.

PM Modi assured to provide all help for Assam flood

New Delhi: Against the backdrop of a devastating flood in Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday has assured a delegation of BJP MPs from Assam that central government will provide all possible assistance to the flood-hit state.

The assurance to BJP MPs from Assam came when they called on the Prime Minister to apprise him about the flood situation in the state and urged him to provide financial assistance to tide over the crisis.

The delegation also submitted a memorandum to PM Modi urging him to announce a special package to mitigate the floods, which every year damage roads, houses and crops.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, BJP MP Dilip Saikia said, "The Prime Minister has assured us that he will provide all possible help at this situation when Assam is reeling under flood."

Saikia refuting allegation levelled by Congress that the amount released by Centre under SDRF is an overdue amount said, "The government has already released the SDRF fund. Amount of Rs 251 crores was released on time the government. He assured us to provide assistance to rehabilitate people."

"We have demanded to enlist this as the national calamity," Saikia stated.

As many as 37 people have lost their lives so far due to the floods and two landslide incidents in the state, Assam's State Disaster Management Authority had said on Thursday.

As on July 18, a total of 4,128 villages in 103 revenue circles of 28 districts have been affected due to floods. Approximately 53,52,107 people have been affected in the state, the disaster management body had said.

Body:Prime Minister Modi gave this assurance to a delegation of BJP MPs from Assam who called him at the Parliament chamber.

An eight member delegation was led by Mangaldoi MP Dilip Saikia. The delegation also submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Modi.

"The Prime Minister has assured us that he will provide all possible help at this situation when Assam is reeling under flood," said Dilip Saikia in an exclusive interview to ETV Bharat.

Quoting Prime Minister, Saikia said that he always try to give so much attention to the people of Northeast and Assam.

"The government has already released an amount of rupees 251 crore under the SDRF...and We hope government will take steps more central funds," said Saikia refuting allegation levelled by Congress that the amount released by Centre under State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) is an overdue amount.



Conclusion:Saikia said that the Centre has already taken initiatives to enlist Assam flood under national calamity list.

"Tagging it (flood) as a national problem is not important...What is important is that what actions have been," Saikia stated.
