NRC will be published on time: Assam CM

After a meeting with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed confidence that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) will be published before the stipulated deadline of July 31.

New Delhi: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday said that the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) will be published before the July 31 deadline.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and appraised him over the development regarding NRC.
"As directed by the Honourable Supreme Court, we will complete and publish the final NRC before July 31," Sonowal said.

He said that all arrangements have been made to protect genuine Indian citizens.

The apex court had earlier declared that the process must be completed on or before July 31. It said that the process could not be delayed even by a day.

Reacting to the exit poll which was announced on May 19, Sonowal said that the NDA Government is all set to retain office.
"NDA is coming again and Narendra Modi is going to be the Prime Minister," he said.

The meeting between the Assam Chief Minister and Home Minister Rajnath Singh also discussed the prevailing law and order situation in the state.

Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia, IGP Special Branch Hiren Nath, Joint Secretary (NE) Satyendra Garg among others were present in the meeting.
