NLFT militant arrested in Tripura

A trained National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) militant was arrested on Monday from Ampi Chowmuhani area under Teliamura sub-division. The militant identified as Kishore Debbarma was believed to be a close associate of militant Dilip Debbarma.

Agartala: A trained National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) militant was arrested on Monday from Ampi Chowmuhani area under Teliamura sub-division. The militant identified as Kishore Debbarma was believed to be a close associate of militant Dilip Debbarma. Acting on a tip-off, a team of police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) laid an ambush at Ampi Chowmuhani area for Debbarma.

“We have been searching for him ever since Buddha Debbarma was arrested at Jirania. Jirania police station shared information that Kishore was a trained militant and was working undercover for NLFT in Teliamura. Finally, we succeeded in arresting him”, said a police source. The operation was jointly led by Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Teliamura Sona Charan Jamatia and Deputy Commandant 12 Battalion TSR Shyamal Debbarma.

After interrogation, the police and TSR teams once again left for Rangiayatilla and Bairagi Dhepa areas of Teliamura for search operations. Sources said, “Kishore revealed that a group of militants heavily armed with sophisticated weapons was in search of a suitable opportunity to penetrate. The sole purpose of the group was to create some violence ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections to influence the voters in favour of certain political group.”

Meanwhile, DGP Tripura police VS Yadav had already informed the press that NLFT was enjoying political patronage and the reason behind their great interests pertaining to the TTAADC elections as their activities were being sponsored by some political bosses.

"With this arrest, we have succeeded in neutralizing the right hand of militant Dilip Debbarma, the self-styled area commander of NLFT. Now, the next target is to trace Dilip out from his hideout", police said.
