Sivasagar: Masks or mukhas are said to be the foundation of Assamese culture and tradition.
Revakanta Mahanta from Sivasagar, head of Khatpar satra (a religious institute), is a famous mask artist, who has received numerous awards - both at the state and national level.
Recently, he was given the Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha Award 2019 by the Assam government.
Apart from the above, Mahanta also contributed in the tableau parade of Republic Day.
His main aim is to keep the traditional mask-making culture alive, which at present, is fading away.
Presently, besides making the mukhas or masks, he is busy in handling the duties as the head of Khatpar Satra.
